Information about: Israel–United States Attacks on Iran
The United States and Israel carried out coordinated military strikes on Iran on 28 February 2026, prompting Iranian retaliation and a rapid escalation in regional tensions. In response, several Middle Eastern countries, including Qatar and the UAE, closed all or parts of their airspace, resulting in significant disruption to international aviation.
Given that many flights between Australia and Europe or the United Kingdom transit through Middle Eastern hubs, these closures and restrictions have caused, or are expected to cause, flight cancellations, missed connections, and delays for Australian passengers travelling to or from Europe and the UK.
Airlines have responded by suspending or rerouting services due to safety concerns and restricted airspace. In some cases, they are also offering customers additional flexibility, including the ability to reschedule travel, request credits, or obtain refunds.
